Grattans RF Network From Barcoding.co.uk Keeps Shipments on Time
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

Leading catalogue company Grattan plc has implemented one of the country's most extensive Radio Frequency (RF) data capture systems. Supplied by Barcoding.co.uk, the multi-site Wi-Fi network connects 475 barcode scanners with hundreds of devices including PC's, printers and warehouse management systems.

Owned by the multi-national Otto Group, Grattan plc operates an enormous 1.2 million square foot warehouse in Bradford fulfilling orders for the popular Grattan and Freemans catalogues. Barcoding.co.uk undertook RF site surveys prior to installation of 100 Wi-Fi Access Points including a second warehouse in Peterborough and systems at 16 regional distribution depots.

Barcoding.co.uk installed Proxim RF equipment and also provided an innovative portable RF solution with a Client bridge for Ethernet to Wi-Fi connection. This allows local RF hubs to be moved around giving added flexibility to the warehouse network.

"Barcoding.co.uk has been an invaluable partner in the implementation of what is one of the largest ever RF networked data systems. Their expertise in RF networks has proven to be a real asset allowing us to implement highly reliable systems throughout our UK operations" says Andy Kay, Grattans Project Leader - Technical Infrastructure.

The Otto Group employs over 6,000 staff in the UK and owns Parcelnet, the doorstep courier delivery network. The Grattan warehouse in Bradford was the largest in Europe when opened in 1988 and the company operates call centres in Bradford and Sheffield.

Barcoding.co.uk has been established within the automatic identification sector for 15 years as an industry leader in barcode and wireless technology. Barcoding.co.uk supplies to an extensive blue chip client base including Nissan, Avery Dennison, Corus, Procter & Gamble, St. Gobain and Center Parcs.
