Data Collection acquires MARCH
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

Data Collection Limited has acquired the MARCH Group which specialises in highways maintenance software and are the developers of the accredited MARCH Pavement Management System (UKPMS). The acquisition boosts Data Collection's software development capability and gives the company an important entry into PMS; an area closely related to Data Collection’s core highways surveying business.

Data Collection specialises in the collection of highway condition and inventory data essential for the maintenance planning of the highway network. The company is a major player in the provision of SCANNER automated road surface surveys that are a requirement for calculating the Governments Best Value Performance Indicator (BVPI) on road maintenance. MARCH is one of only five accredited UKPMS systems for producing the BVPI’s.

“The acquisition of MARCH enables Data Collection to provide a seamless data service from surveying to reporting with the additional benefit of data analysis; something that was previously unavailable. We see it as an important first step in developing a complete data service and data bureau for Highway Engineers” says Steve Batchelor, Director of Data Collection Limited.

The MARCH Group is based in central Leicester and Data Collection will retain its headquarters in Bognor Regis. Leicester will become the centre for software development and the team is being expanded to develop a new generation MARCHpms due for release later this year.

MARCHpms is a user-friendly Pavement Management System designed specifically for UKPMS. The system complies with national standards and allows visual and machine survey data to be processed in accordance with the UKPMS logical design. Users can define a UKPMS road network, which is populated with an item inventory and condition data.

Automatic processing enables a number of operations to be carried out including rating, treatment selection, prioritisation by condition, estimating and budgeting. Condition projections, economic ranking and the projection of network trends are standard features of the system and also included are over 200 Performance Indicator reports.
