NAVTEQ Announces Release of First Turkey Map
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

CHICAGO, June 11 -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has announced its first release of digital map coverage in Turkey. The NAVTEQ(R) map of Turkey covers a population of more than 13 million and includes over 1,000 administrative places such as cities. The initial release contains over 28,000 kilometers of navigable roads for the cities of Istanbul and Ankara. The major highways, secondary roads, and arterial streets in these cities have been verified against 615+ validation rules and conform to NAVTEQ's standard global data specification. This attention to detail provides customers with a high quality dataset and allows them to use the data immediately with other NAVTEQ maps. Additionally, the NAVTEQ map of Turkey contains connector roads throughout the country, connecting the country's largest cities to each other and linking Turkey to Bulgaria and Greece.

"The addition of the Turkey map provides a seamless link between Europe and the Middle East where we have extensive coverage," stated Mary Hardwick, Vice President of Product Management Europe, Middle East and Africa. "Because NAVTEQ provides maps in standard formats using a single data specification, customers will be able to easily integrate the Turkey map into their regional solutions providing users of navigation, wireless location-based, and fleet optimization systems a continuous corridor of coverage from Oman to Portugal and Norway."

"Geographic analysts, deployed from Europe working along side local residents, assured that the map was built to the NAVTEQ global specification that incorporated local nuances," reported Christian Heyne, NAVTEQ Country Manager. "With our NAVTEQ team applying the NAVTEQ specification, our customers have the confidence that the map of Turkey will work in the same environment as any other NAVTEQ map they are currently using."

NAVTEQ has the largest single database specification coverage in the Middle East including, along with Turkey, maps for the following countries and territories: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and U.A.E.
