GGP’s Gazetteer Software Advances UK’s National Address Database
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

Croydon, UK, 08 June 2007 – Local Authorities across England and Wales are migrating to new gazetteer management software from GGP Systems. Blackpool and Gosport are amongst the first ten councils to order the latest GGP NGz software, one of only two systems to be accredited to the all-important National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG): 2006 BS7666 standard. The software will further underpin moves toward a definitive national address database giving councils a powerful tool to manage their own local address databases and take full advantage of the fast-evolving NPLG services.

The NLPG enables various local authority departments – from revenue collection and environmental health, to social security, the electoral roll and education – to now offer true ‘joined up’ government with benefits that go beyond service delivery. Fraud prevention, tax collection and disaster planning all benefit from the fact that each property is given a ‘Unique Property Reference Number’ for life, transcending numbers, names, descriptions and postcodes.

GGP NGz is specifically designed to manage a Council’s Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG); ensuring a consistent, up to date and accurate base for all property based information within an organisation. From October 2007 all 375 Councils in England and Wales must be able to transfer data to the national NLPG hub in compliance with a new data transfer format standard. With GGP ’s compliant software and added NLPG functionality, the new standard promises to revolutionise the way Local Authority custodians create and manage addresses.

“Since we achieved accreditation more and more Councils are choosing GGP NGz to manage the creation, management and transfer of their local address databases to the national hub,” said Tim Maxwell, Managing Director of GGP Systems. “Pioneering authorities such as Blackpool and Gosport are leading the way, implementing the new standard well in advance of the October deadline.”

GGP NGz also provides an interface between the local authority database, other council property database systems and the NLPG central hub. The new NLPG: 2006 BS766 standard data transfer format, DTF 7.3, includes additional address details including the ability to record the name of occupiers of commercial buildings, land use classifications and associated ward and parish.

GGP Systems design software solutions specifically for local authorities. They provide Councils with easy to use solutions for the creation and management of corporate property databases, the ability to add and use a spatial element to all location based information and a range of solutions to meet e-Government directives.
