PCI Geomatics’ Web Coverage Server Successfully Passes Compliancy Testing

Richmond Hill, Ontario – April 21, 2008 - PCI Geomatics, a world-leading developer of software and solutions for geospatial imaging applications, is pleased to announce that its Web Coverage Server (WCS) used in the Open Geospatial Consortium’s (OGC) OWS-5 project, passes all preliminary testing with the Open GIS Web Coverage Service V1.1. PCI Geomatics’ WCS is the only commercial grade product to pass the compliancy tests.

A WCS is a web service which returns a geographic “coverage” of the earth’s surface, in response to a defined and standard request type. The benefits of a PCI commercial Web Coverage Server include: the ability to publish geospatial imagery in an Oracle database from files or hard drive, a web based administrator user interface, output imagery in varying different formats, the ability to generate mosaics and more.

PCI Geomatics took part in the OWS-5 project, an interoperability initiative testbed activity which advances OGC’s framework for interoperability within the geospatial industry. Committed to such principles, PCI Geomatics implemented a prototype WCS-T that provides transactional services able to ingest and publish JPIP and GML in JPEG 2000 based coverages in addition to Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED).

“PCI Geomatics recognizes the importance of interoperable architectures to support operational geospatial data access across organizations,” said Steven Keens, Senior Software Developer at PCI Geomatics. “We are delighted with the results and happy to have been one of the participants in OWS-5.”

The results of the testing were announced in St. Louis, MO on March 27 at the OGC technical committee meeting.
