Emergency Management and Research Institute and GEOMED Research Forschungsgesellschaft mbH signed an MoU to work together on shared goals regarding the improvement of GIS based emergency health systems data utilization and related research and emergency response services internationally.
GEOMED's focus is on the development and application of geography-based methods and technologies in public health and health care. Research and development projects deal with planning and allocation of resources in emergency or secondary care, innovative health monitoring and surveillance applications or decision support in the context of urban health. Continuous cooperations exist with research institutions, health services and authorities across Europe, Northern America as well as in India and China.
GEOMED was established in August 2007 by former researchers of the German universities of Bonn, Munich and Cologne as an independent research corporation.
GEOMED Research team members have qualifications and professional experience in the fields of health geography, informatics, public health, health economics, law and health services management. Constantly, members of the corporation act as experts and consultants to national and international institutions. Lectures and training seminars are conducted at universities in Europe and abroad. GEOMED Research regularly supports students to carry out research in relation to their masters or doctoral theses.
The main advantages of using GIS are
using Emergency data for health monitoring and early warning, flexible relocation of ambulances based on historical demand pattern integrated in the dispatch system.
Main goals of the alliance is to to make planning processes more transparent, to facilitate public participation, to facilitate and improve co-operation of planners, experts and communities, and, last but not least, to make urban planning more efficient, less time-consuming, and less expensive.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Anil Jampala, Lead Partner, EMRI said, "Geomed's alliance with EMRI will make 108 function better. It will help our partners like the police and fire to act in a quicker manner by helping us locate better access to water sources in case of a fire emergency and better access points in case of a police emergency."
