Burlington County, NJ Implements Pictometry for Emergency Management
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

Rochester, NY – February 25, 2008 – Pictometry International Corp., the worldwide leader in digital, aerial oblique imagery and measuring software systems, announced today that it has secured a license agreement for Burlington County, NJ for software and countywide imagery. Imagery for the county was captured by Pictometry’s proprietary camera system last fall and will be received by the county early this spring. The high-resolution imagery and software will be used to support a number of county agencies including the Burlington County Sheriff Department, 911, Fire Department, Emergency Management, Transportation, Engineering, Economic Development, Prosecutor, Tax/Assessment and the Geographic Information System (GIS) departments.

With a population of approximately 500,000 in an area slightly more than 827 square miles, Burlington County is the largest geographic county in New Jersey. Currently, 16 out of 21 counties in the state use or are scheduled to receive Pictometry oblique aerial imaging technology.

Under terms of the license agreement, all of the county’s municipalities can have access to the software and imagery for their communities, as well as share the visual information between their community agencies as needed. This includes all local police and fire departments, tax/assessment, public works and others.

“Law enforcement officials in Burlington County are thrilled with the plans being implemented to utilize the Pictometry solution here,” said Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield. Stanfield and others within the county started considering the benefits of aerial oblique imagery several years ago and were able to secure funding for the imagery and software from federal Homeland Security grants.

Now, officers from departments throughout the county will be able to call up multi-dimensional views of homes, businesses and high crime areas for safety and strategy reasons even while on their way to a response. "The possible uses for Pictometry are endless," said Stanfield, adding that officers will be able to use the imagery to know exactly how, where, and when to approach each location.

“In addition,” said Burlington County Public Safety Director Joe Saiia “Pictometry imagery and the ability to see multiple views will be an invaluable asset for public safety planning, enabling us to sets up safety zones and critical access areas in emergency situations."

Pictometry’s industry leading software enables users to quickly and easily access up to 12 different high-resolution views of any property, building, highway, landmark, or other feature in a county. The software also enables end users to obtain measurements directly from the imagery as well as insert GIS content and other data. Pictometry imagery is currently used by counties and cities in 47 states.

“Burlington County joins a growing list of counties that are utilizing Pictometry technology to further extend the use of visual and GIS information throughout their jurisdictions in a wide range of applications that include law enforcement and homeland security,” said Dante Pennacchia, Chief Marketing Officer at Pictometry.
