URISA/NENA Addressing Conference Registration Opens

Park Ridge, IL - The National Emergency Number Association (NENA) and the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) are pleased to announce that registration has opened for the URISA/NENA Addressing Conference (formerly known as the Geospatial Integration for Public Safety Conference), taking place April 7-10, 2008 in Portland, Oregon.
The only conference where GIS professionals, addressing coordinators, 9-1-1 and emergency response specialists come together for education and networking.
This conference has evolved from URISA's Street Smart and Address Savvy Conference (held from 1999 to 2005). In 2006 (Nashville), NENA joined URISA as a full partner in this educational program and the conference was re-named to the Geospatial Integration for Public Safety Conference. Following the 2007 conference in New Orleans, there was much discussion about bringing a bit more of the addressing focus back to the conference while continuing to bring the qualities of the GIPSC event to the program.
The conference begins with a choice of three optional full-day workshops:
Introduction to Next Generation 9-1-1
Understanding GIS for the PSAP
Addresses and IS/GIS Implementation: Key to GIS Success
Industry pioneer, Don Cooke will open the conference with the keynote address and Will Craig will provide his "Vision for a Nation-Wide Address Database," in the closing plenary session.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, attendees may choose sessions in three program tracks (Addressing Basics, Coordination, and Standards; Emergency Response and 9-1-1; and Case Studies of GIS Integration with Public Safety). Sessions have been developed on a variety of important topics like these:
Regional and Statewide Approaches to Address Data Sharing
This session will review three major case studies of address coordination and data sharing across city, county and statewide enterprises.
GIS Data and E 9-1-1
Increasingly, enhanced 9-1-1 data and GIS data are relied upon to supply accurate, timely information to emergency responders. The presentations in this session provide ways to “grade” your data, evolve your data over decades, and keep your data in synch with partners and other data sources.
NG 9-1-1 & Addressing
Learn about exciting technology aimed at providing solutions to the changing and dynamic landscape of 9-1-1 and addressing.
In addition, attendees will learn the current status of the draft FGDC Street Address Data Standard.
Technical Tours - Attendees have the opportunity to register for one of two technical tours that will showcase technology in action in the Portland area on Thursday morning. Portland Metro Data Resource Center (GIS Shop) and the Clackamas County C-Com 911 Center will host the tours.
Continuing Education Credit: GISCI Certification points earned for attending one workshop and this Conference = 0.5 GISCI education points. Attendance is recognized for continuing education credit toward recertification as an Emergency Number Professional (ENP) with the National Emergency Number Association, as well as for recertification credit with the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch for police, fire and medical emergency dispatchers.
