Mobile Commerce has announced today the first implementation of its enhanced Location Gateway service with Microsoft’s Live Search. Mobile users in the UK using Live Search can have their search results optimised around their current location.
When users click on the ‘Find My Location’ link on the Live Search page (http://m.live.com), Live Search then uses Mobile Commerce’s technology to perform a location lookup to return co-ordinates and a meaningful description of where the user is. This is all seamless to the user who sees Live Search automatically updated with their estimated location. This enables the user to quickly access local maps, step-by-step driving directions, cinema listings, local weather forecasts, as well as businesses, restaurants and any other information regarding local amenities and entertainment.
The fast and cost-effective Location Gateway service has been enhanced by Mobile Commerce to allow any WAP site to integrate location into their services without the need to collect the user’s mobile number.
Steve Page, CEO of Mobile Commerce, said: “We are delighted that our technology is being used by a globally iconic company like Microsoft. With our input, mobile users can access the local information that matters when they need it most, quickly, easily and no matter where they are. As the Mobile Internet takes off, location will become a pervasive enabler of consumer applications on mobile.”
