walkit.com Makes a Healthy Investment in Cities Revealed Aerial Imagery

Cambridge - May 14, 2008 - The GeoInformation® Group, publishers of Cities Revealed aerial photography (www.citiesrevealed.com), announce today that walkit.com have purchased modern aerial imagery of nine cities to assist in the calculation of walking routes on its award-winning website.

walkit.com is the only dedicated walking route planner for urban areas, its mission to get people walking more in and around towns and cities. By equipping the public with dedicated pedestrian route information, walkit.com think that they can convince people to try walking in place of other modes of transport. Since its launch in 2007, visitors to the site have grown to nearly 60 000 per month, with around 375 000 page impressions per month.

The walkit.com website currently provides online walking route planners for six major cities across Great Britain, including central London. The service will be rolled out to all the UK’s major cities by the end of 2008. The aerial imagery is used in conjunction with NAVTEQ road mapping and traffic data, and has been particularly useful in providing additional information such a pedestrian routes that are not visible on road maps.

Jamie Wallace, Director of walkit.com commented, “The GeoInformation Group is known for providing clear and accurate aerial imagery. The Cities Revealed imagery portfolio is extensive, particularly for urban areas. By working with one supplier who could offer us all of the cities we need we were able to maximise cost-effectiveness. Most importantly, from our perspective, they were very responsive to our requirements and as this is a long-term project we need to build a strong professional relationship with our geographic information supplier – we’ve made the right choice.”
