North Hertfordshire District Council Selects Cadcorp SIS and GeognoSIS Software

Stevenage, Herts - May 16, 2008 – Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced that North Hertfordshire District Council has placed a contract for the supply and implementation of a new, corporate GIS based on the Cadcorp SIS and Cadcorp GeognoSIS family of software products.

The new GIS will replace other systems currently in use at North Hertfordshire D.C. and comprises multiple licences of Cadcorp SIS desktop GIS software, including the Map Browser, Map Editor, Map Modeller and Map Reader products; Cadcorp GeognoSIS – the company’s dynamic, web-based GIS; plus Cadcorp OS MasterMap ITN Manager, Cadcorp OS MasterMap Manager, Cadcorp OS PAI Manager and the Cadcorp Oracle Spatial Archiving Wizard.

Cadcorp SIS already plays an important role in GIS at North Herts D.C. as the embedded GIS component of the Plantech suite of software used by the council for local gazetteer, planning, building control, environmental health and street naming and numbering applications. The new system will extend the use of GIS to other departments, most notably the Customer Contact Centre via the corporate intranet, as well as bringing it to grounds maintenance, property services, revenues and insurance/risk management, among other departments.

In addition to providing technical advice and assistance during the system implementation phase, Cadcorp experts will also work with North Hertfordshire D.C. staff to set up a new spatial data warehouse based on Oracle Spatial 10g. This will provide all council staff with easy access to centrally-stored and managed spatial data via the corporate intranet.

“The council’s management team sees GIS as an important, authority-wide tool for use in enhancing service delivery at the same time as delivering savings and providing information to local residents”, said Toby Le Sage, information manager (information management), customer services, at North Hertfordshire District Council. “Most importantly, the new Cadcorp SIS-based GIS will help the council meet many of the Priority Outcomes required by central government, including those relating to Community Information, Local Environment and Making it Easier for Citizens to do Business with the Council.”

“We are delighted that North Hertfordshire District Council has made the decision to base its corporate GIS on Cadcorp SIS,” said Mike O’Neil, managing director, Cadcorp. “We look forward to working with the council to ensure a smooth transition to the new system and to help it meet its objectives.”
