NVision Solutions Announces Commercial Release of HazNet

Bay Saint Louis, MS – NVision Solutions Inc. is pleased to announce the commercial release of its emergency management system, HazNet, an all-hazards network powered by NVision’s Real-time Emergency Action Coordination Tool (REACT). HazNet has been operational since 2003 in St Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

NASA recently purchased a highly customized version of the HazNet as part of a Phase III SBIR contract with NVision. NASA will use HazNet to protect the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi as part of its new Emergency Operations Center and will support the NASA Michoud facility in Louisiana. The system will also provide a real-time link to NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

“This tool ushers in a new era of information gathering and sharing between Federal, State, and Local agencies across multiple geographies,” stated Craig Harvey, COO and Executive Vice President of NVision Solutions. “Our goal was to get HazNet deployed in the Gulf Coast Region - both in Mississippi and Louisiana – before the 2009 Hurricane Season. We want to afford those people hardest hit by Katrina the full benefits offered by new technologies.”

HazNet is the result of over 5 years of research and over 200,000 hours of operational testing of GIS-based common operating pictures for emergency operations centers through NASA Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Contracts, the NASA Dual-Use technology transfer program, and NASA’s Innovative Partnership Program. HazNet is web-based and uses GIS maps, incorporating the DHS Incident Command System (ICS) for planning, response, and recovery to any sized crisis. Because HazNet is based in ICS, information can be exchanged with other agencies not using HazNet without any additional work.

In addition to web-based, customizable ICS reporting, HazNet acquires and displays numerous real-time sensor arrays such as weather, vehicle and equipment tracking, personnel tracking, disaster impact modeling, shelter manifests, resource availability, environmental sensor information, and incident photos. Examples of modeling and sensors include an NVision riverine flood inundation model and impact report automatically triggered by USGS or low-cost real-time commercial stream gages and a new, entirely web-based version of the EPA Cameo ALOHA air dispersion model.
