Rolta International has been awarded a contract to produce digital cadastral maps and 3-
D building models for a number of US cities. Rolta is digitizing parcels from paper maps
delivering the resulting data to Urban Data Solutions in ESRI ArcInfo format.
Mesa Solutions announced a strategic alliance with Miner & Miner. The relationship
helps the companies to provide, implement, and deliver solutions to electric, gas, and
waste/water utilities based on ESRI’s ArcFM™ suite.
Convergent Group and iMedeon have announced the formation of a
strategic alliance to integrate iMedeon’s IM:Work™ application suite into Convergent
Group’s Model Office™.
Autodesk has launched Autodesk Field Survey, a full featured
stand-alone coordinate geometry package, bringing together the benefits of a high-end
survey software at an affordable price. The product boasts the ability to enable users to
manage survey jobs from “field to finish”. Users operate with data in DWG format and
can import/export to LandXML.
Maricopa County, AZ awarded a three year contract to LanData Airborne Systems,
Irvine, CA. Initially, LanData will provide black and white digital ortho photography at
one-foot pixel resolution as well as in 3-D.
GITA has announced the GITA 2001 seminar series - a series of on-line events
accessible via a toll-free number. Users will take part in a 1.5 hour seminar by viewing
power point slides with a web browser. Skilled presenters will provide commentary and
an online chat feature will facilitate interaction between presenters and the audience.

Cook-Hurlburt has released ED server, a general purpose job server that schedules,
manages, and tracks job activity with minimal user intervention. Cook-Hurlburt Inc. is a
leading provider of design solutions that integrate GIS, WMS, and mobile technologies
for the utility industry.
ESRI and Main Course Technologies (MCT) have announced PortaTrack. A location-
based services solution for mobile asset tracking, PortaTrack was developed using
ArcIMS software, merges GPS, wireless, and Internet technologies, enabling businesses
to locate and manage their mobile workforce from anywhere. The product is boasted as
the first wireless Internet application to offer up-to-the-minute traffic and location
information.
ESRI and AirTrak have released TerraTrak solutions for tracking and managing
messaging systems for fleet management. TerraTrak was developed using ESRI’s
MapObject’s component based software. Vehicles equipped with specialized hardware
receive, forward, and store GPS signals. APSs feed user desktops with a map display and
optional web browsing.
Alliant Energy is hosting the Electric and Gas User Group (EGUG) Conference Oct. 7-
10, 2001. The event is to be held at Grand Geneva Resort, WI. An ArcGIS Energy Model
Consortium will be held at the same location. Details are available at

ESRI has announced the pending release of ArcGIS 8.1. The release is composed of
ArcView, ArcInfo, and ArcSDE. All include new functionality and are built on a
common architecture. New products included in the suite are ArcEditor, ArcGIS Spatiaql
Analyst, ArcGIS 3D Analyst, ArcGIS Gesostatistical Analyst, ArcGIS StreetMapUSA,
ArcPress for ArcGIS, and a MrSID encoder. Products are expected to commence
shipping some time in May.
Apex Gesopatial Data Services has formed a subsidiary -
LinearVison, LLC. LinearVision offers state-of-the-art airborne and ground asset
inventory and inspection services for the utility, railroad, transportation, and
environmental management industries.
Cquay Inc, Calgary, Alberta announced the Beta release of its Location Smart™ services.
Powered by Common Ground™, Cquay’s core technology, Location Smart™ is targeted
at web developers, integrators, and ASPs.
Responding to the demand for a global data product to serve corporate infrastructure
planning needs, Tobin International Ltd. Has introduced the Global Planner™, a unique
integration of topographic maps and vector data. The data comes bundled with Tobin’s
DOMsView2000 to enable simple plotting, viewing, and redlining.
Here’s what users will receive:
- 1:500,000 Russian maps
- 1:1,000,000 DCW
- Digital elevation data
- English Language layer
- DOMsView2000
Global Planner is the foundation for Country Planner 500 (1:500,000 topo maps) and
Country Planner 200 (1:200,000 topo maps). Cultural layers included in the products
include contours, political boundaries, transportation routes, urban areas, hydrology, and
vegetation. Incorporating LandSat ETM+ scenes can further enhance the data.
