SpatialNews Press Release

From the Floor at GITA 25

by Glenn Letham, GeoCommunity Managing Editor
The following article appeared in the GITA 25 "Conference News" publication on Wednesday March 20

Numerous exhibitors tell me that the quality of leads they get from exhibiting at the GITA Conference is tough to beat. I have to agree, and that's what keeps exhibitors returning year after year.

Some Familiar Faces
  • Visibly present on the exhibition floor once again is Tobin International Ltd. (booth #1518). This year the company is using the conference as a forum to announce the release of Tobin InSight-a system of access, interchange, and storage technologies making geographic information more accessible to users across the enterprise. A detailed demo revealed to me that this product makes it very simple for users to manage, view, analyze, and report on their geo-information, regardless of format.
  • It's always a treat getting a chance to meet with leading executives and visionaries like Larry Diamond, VP of GIS and the Design Solutions Divisions with Autodesk (booth #518). Visitors to Larry and company get a chance to see a number of Web and mobile solutions, enabled by MapGuide 6-released in November 2001. Particularly interesting in the latest release are the new functionality like support for Oracle9I, XML, and expanded raster handling with support for ECW and MrSID.
  • Front and center on the floor is Intergraph Corporation. Of particular interest in Booth #1107 is the InService Outage and workforce management solutions and Intergraph's solution to "make the Engineer's life easier" - G/Technology V9.0. I suggest you see for yourself how these solutions were used by PREPA in Puerto Rico to rebuild after massive destruction left behind Hurricane Georges in 1998.
  • Visitors to ESRI (booth #1300) have numerous opportunities to see ArcGIS and ArcIMS in action in presentations by ESRI staff and business partners. While you're there, be sure to register to win a Panasonic Toughbook loaded with ArcPad software.

Some New Faces
  • Questerra (booth #918) is using GITA 25 to announce the latest Web-based Spatial Information Management Service. This easy to use and aesthetically pleasing solution enables subscribers to access previously inaccessible or expensive data. Users searching for 24/7 spatial integration anytime, anywhere will find their offerings very appealing.
  • ABACO (booth #639) is offering a large range of high quality OCX/ActiveX components and DLL libraries for GIS developers. They hope to connect with some U.S.-based partners prior to returning home to Italy. If you haven't see their TN-3D product in action, be sure to check it out before the show ends!
  • Utility Associates, Inc. (booth #1336) has announced that Allegheny Energy has successfully tested the first phase of their new dispatch system-AvaiLT-allowing for spatial coordination of crews and outages and increasing the effectiveness of the field operations of more than 550 Allegheny field crews.
My advice to you is to take advantage of the quality of business leads that await you on the exhibition floor. Mix with old friends and business associates, however, be sure to introduce yourself to some of the new faces as well.
