Title: Future directions in spatial technology and how to capitalise on them

Presented By: Nigel Mason, Business Consultant, Informed Solutions

Synopsis: The spatial industry is undergoing a period of fundamental change. Technology is advancing rapidly, intelligent data is becoming more widely available, organisations are more spatially aware. It is imperative that we embrace these changes to maximise the value of our investments.

The presentation will consider how GIS technologies have progressed from monolithic and proprietary systems, typically managed and located in specialised departments, to enterprise wide solutions accessed by all.

It will assess the catalysts for change, looking at the technical, data and organisational drivers that are forcing us all to reconsider how we use technology to achieve our business objectives.

The presentation will consider the challenges that technology suppliers, developers and users face in embracing the fundamental changes that we are starting to witness. Finally, painting a vision of the (near) future where spatial technology merges with mainstream business systems.
