Title: Setting the standard for map generalisation

Presented By: Melanie Hayles, Senior Software Engineer, Laser-Scan

Synopsis: Laser-Scan is consulting mapping agencies across Europe to develop a new generalisation product.

By addressing the specific requirements of organisations that face the challenges of generalisation every day, we aim to deliver a product that will be generic and fully customisable.

Laser-Scan has initiated the MAGNET project (Mapping Agencies Generalisation NETwork) which follows in the footsteps of the successful EU-funded AGENT project. The results of the AGENT project have been used to develop Laser-Scan's current generalisation product, which is used in production by IGN France and KMS Denmark. This paper will describe how the MAGNET project will use the agent approach, the Gothic object processing capability and the latest technologies available to create a truly valuable generalisation product.

Biography
Melanie Hayles is the Technical Project Manager for the Generalisation project. Melanie joined Laser-Scan in 1999 as a software engineer, after graduating with a Physics Degree from Imperial College. She has worked closely with Ordnance Survey GB developing the LAMPS2 / SOCET SET system and more recently with the IGN Carto2001 who are developing a production flowline based on the AGENT prototype.
