Kodak introduces a new GPS enabled camera system specifically for ESRI’s ArcView® GIS users.

Introducing Kodak Digital Science Field Imaging System (FIS) 265

New Haven, CT

Now it’s a snap to add high quality images to your Geographical Information System (GIS) projects with the new Kodak Digital Science Field Imaging System 265; a new GPS enabled camera system from Eastman Kodak’s Scientific Imaging Systems group. Whether your application is Environmental, Asset Management/Inventory, Municipal Code Enforcement, or any other project where GIS is important, the FIS 265 can simplify your work and save you time and money.

The FIS 265 system provides the easiest way to combine geographic location data with images enabling you to use those images as information. Eliminate the large amount of manual labor required to keep track of the capture locations and image identity in written form. The FIS 265 is an incredibly helpful documentation tool, combining the latest in digital photography and global positioning technology, with the most popular GIS software for your field applications.

The FIS 265 system includes a powerful software extension for ESRI ArcView GIS for Windows software (version 3.0a or higher). The extension reads the embedded GPS information in your images and quickly creates a point theme in your project. The extension also automatically sets up the hot links in ArcView GIS … just click on a point symbol and in an instant you are viewing the images taken at that location.

The basic system comes with everything you need to begin your GPS image capture. Load the FIS 265 ArcView® GIS extension software, connect the DC265, the Kodak 1.6 mega pixel, award winning camera, to the Garmin III Plus GPS receiver (included) and you're ready to capture images anywhere in the field with no tedious tracking of where and when each picture was taken.

FIS 265 puts you in control. You can choose to display the GPS data directly on the image as a watermark and how many pictures to take at each location (up to four). You can even choose to have the camera go into GPS capture mode directly when you turn it on. Just turn the camera on, press the shutter button and the FIS 265 does the rest. When you’re done, simply transfer the images to your computer or laptop with any of the convenient methods available (PCMCIA card adapter, USB, serial port, infrared.) Through a short series of dialog boxes, you can create a new point theme or add images to an existing point theme, individually or whole folders at a time. Hundreds of images can be added to your project in just minutes.

Eastman Kodak Company's Scientific Imaging Systems group, located in Rochester, NY and New Haven CT, develops and markets high performance digital imaging systems for scientific research, quality control, education and scientific business segments.

The FIS 265 system is among a selection of new products offered by Kodak Scientific Imaging Systems via a new e-commerce program. Available starting October 5, 1999, FIS 265 can be purchased on-line at www.kodak.com/go/FIS265b. FIS 265 is currently available in the United States and Canada only.
