Canadians working in the U.S. and Obtaining a TN VisaBy Glenn LethamNAFTA and The Web Simple searches on most of the major search engines using the term "NAFTA" will, in most cases, point you to offices and websites of lawyers offering consulting services. As is the case with many legal matters, expect much confusion when you commence your research. Here's a typical example: a search on the web is likely to turn up a reference to the NAFTA Secretariat - the site looks like an official NAFTA resource there is a statement reading the following - "While they are believed to be accurate and complete, the NAFTA Secretariat assumes no responsibility for their content." I am very reluctant to start gathering facts that claim no responsibility for the accuracy of the material contained in it! I would be very careful when collecting material from private lawyers' websites. Keep in mind that the objective of such sites is often to secure your business. It is generally accepted that, unless a case is complex or out of the ordinary, a lawyer will likely not be necessary to obtain a NAFTA work visa. However, if you have the money or simply can't afford for there to be a mess-up, consulting a lawyer can't hurt. If you want to consult a lawyer's website there is only one that I can confidently recommend www.grasmick.com - I find this resource to be indespensable. Something of interest concerning the Grasmick office; I once contacted them regarding hiring them for some consulting and they merely replied back to me asking what my current salary was... you gotta love lawyers!
