AV-Plus 2.1.2 Description

Let's say that, over the years, you've amassed quite a collection of shapefiles, image themes, tables, and scripts. You know that, typically, every time you add a new shapefile to a project, you still have to endure the slow search for that file through the "Add Theme" dialog--whatever it's presently named and wherever it may be hiding. And afterwards, you will still probably want to create or load a legend, for purposes of visualization-so here we go searching again . . . Because I'm quite familiar with such problems--particularly for newcomers--I wrote AV-Plus. It provides an interface for obtaining a quick overview of frequently used themes, and then selecting a desired theme with a desired legend. Moreover, if you program your own scripts or are downloading scripts from ArcScripts or elsewhere off the Internet, you are probably familiar with the inconvenient of loading scripts, compiling them, and creating a button and icon with an activation script. It's a hassle, but certainly not everything off the Web can be an easy-to-load extension. So, why would you want to do that every time? Instead, make these settings once, by storing it in the AV-Plus table. By using the AV-Tools dialog in AV-Plus, scripts can be easily and permanently associated with buttons, icons, etc., for rapid loading in each new project. AV-Plus uses .dbf tables for both themes and scripts, so that these and related settings are available for both new and long established projects. This also can facilitate the sharing of scripts across a network. Version 2.1 supports jointables (SQL too!) by using a DLL from Maurice Chauvier and event themes from SQL-tables. A easy to use hotlink-picture viewer for JPG-files is added and some other little changes. Try it! I am not a professional programmer. I've never studied programming, but I hope AV-Plus can help you to optimize your work in ArcView.

Note, once you download an uncompress the required file you'll need to extract the avenue scripts to the following directory: \ESRI\AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\EXT32\av-plus\
