Precision A measure of the quality of the method or instrument used to obtain a measurement. The number of significant figures, when the result of a measurement is expressed numerically, is an indicator of precision - the larger the number of significant figures, the more precise the measurement. Precision is not to be confused with the term accuracy, which refers to the degree by which a value, or set of values, either measured or calculated, approximates a specified standard for that value. Section In a public land survey system, a subdivision 1/36 of a township equal to one square mile or 640 acres and having boundaries conforming to meridians and parallels. Township A geographical division within a public land survey system that is defined by a square parcel of land bounded on the east and west by meridians 6 miles apart and by parallels to the north and south also 6 miles apart. This 36 square mile unit of land contains 36 sections, each being one square mile. A township can also be a governmental subdivision, which may vary from the standard size and shape.
