Notice in the upper left corner of the screen, there is a Find Address box which says "Type place or address".

As an example I keyed in Port Orchard. Below is the resulting screen which shows all possible matches. You then simply click on the desired option and the map view is changed to your selection. Even if you don't know the exact name, you can guess at the spelling and several options will appear.
In my case I wanted Port Orchard, Washington. Click Here to view the map of Port Orchard.
To navigate you can simply click on or near a major center and the area will apear highlighted.
