NORTHWOOD RELEASES VERTICAL MAPPER SOFTWARE DEVELOPER KIT

Nepean, Ontario, Canada --- Northwood Geoscience Ltd. announced Jan. 26 that its Vertical Mapper Software Developer Kit (VMSDK) is now available.

"VMSDK enables developers to build application-specific software solutions using the technology embodied in Vertical Mapper,Northwood's powerful GIS analysis and display package for MapInfo Professional," said Mr. James Harvie, Product Manager. "By opening up Vertical Mapper technology, we are encouraging others to develop grid-based applications that can be accessed in MapInfo." Specialized applications include agriculture (crop yield modelling), telecommunications (wireless network optimization), military (terrain modelling), and retail (trade area analysis).

The software developer kit provides the function calls for Vertical Mapper DLLs as well as sample code in MapBasic, VisualBasic, Delphi, and C. Developers will need Vertical Mapper Version 2.1.1 to use this release of VMSDK. Available for US$695, VMSDK is also offered bundled with Vertical Mapper for US$1,195.

Two other developer tools are available from Northwood. N.GRiD, an application programming interface (API), allows developers to create, read, and write data in Northwood numeric and classified grid formats. This means developers can either import data into or export data from Vertical Mapper. Also available is the Northwood raster handler. It enables developers and users to view Northwood grid files within MapInfo, independent of the grid application.

Headquartered in Nepean (Ontario, Canada), Northwood Geoscience Ltd. develops and markets specialized desktop GIS solutions. Northwood's two main software products, Vertical Mapper and deciBel Planner ? an innovative GIS-based RF propagation mapping software package, are distributed in over 45 countries by more
than 200 accredited partners. Northwood also sources, builds, and markets precision geographic data sets that enhance the capabilities of its mapping solutions.  Northwood is a Strategic Partner of MapInfo Corporation as well as MapInfo's 1998 Canadian Partner of the Year.

Vertical Mapper and deciBel Planner are trademarks of Northwood Geoscience Ltd. All other company and product names are trademarks of their respective owners.
