GIS IN CANADA, EH!
Satellite Imagery
I have to admit that I've always been fascinated by the beauty of remotely sensed data, particularly classified satellite imagery.
The Canadian Government has provided numerous ways for you to get a lesson in remote sensing and get a birds eye view of the country at the same time.
Here's some of my favorite resources that lead to Canadian satellite imagery.
The Canada Centre for Remote Sensing's
Earth Observation Catalogue currently has about
500,000 SPOT PLA & MLA and LANDSAT TM quicklook images available
on-line dating from 1991. You can browse and view imagery from SPOT, LANDSAT, NOAA, Seasat, and Radarsat satellites.
There's also a mechanism to help you locate imagery from LANDSAT-7. The search utility from CEONET is driven by a nice web mapping interface.
You zoom in to the area of coverage required andthen have a choice of specifying date of coverage,
maximum %cloud cover, and the number of returned hits.
When your search is completed, you are presented with the image number, data, sample view, and ordering information.

If your just interested in looking at some satellite images of Canada, take the
Images of Canada Tour and see Canada from space.
Users will get instructions on interpreting satellite imagery, as well as quicktime movies and glimpses of spectacular
imagery of Canadian landscapes. This NOAA image of Canada is but one small example of the imagery available here.

The site is guaranteed to be enjoyable to hard core remote sensing enthusiasts, as well as a valuable learning resource for all levels of education.
The image tour page offers some excellent examples of
real uses of remotely sensed data, including change detection in forest cover, urban growth patterns, and ice floe patterns. Each image is accompanied by a detailed description, sources, use, geographic coerage, and more.
I guarantee you'll want to learn more about satellite imagery and other types of remotely sensed data after visiting this site!
