GIS Day - November 19, 1999
The National Geographic Society, The Association of American
Geographers (AAG) and ESRI have announced the inaugural
worlwide GIS Day, to be held on Friday November 19, 1999.
The purpose of the event is to create a single worldwide
event that effectively communicates the benefits and
significance of GIS. The project's goal is to introduce GIS
to a million people world wide.
Some recent announcements by ESRI concerning GIS day include
a 300% participation increase since the ESRI User
Conference, and the Mayor of the City of Phoenix has signed
the official letter to have November 19, 1999, declared as
"Official GIS Day."
Visit the ESRI GIS day website and register your event -
"take the pledge". When you register to host a GIS Day
event, ESRI will provide you with a CD that has everything
you need to get you rolling, including complete
documentation on how to host a GIS Day event, web page
templates, poster templates, invitations, signs, and much
more.
Need an idea for a type of event to host? Here's a couple of
options:
~ Host an open house
~ Work with educational institutions
~ Create a map gallery
~ Present at an organizational meeting
