SPATIAL FREEBIES

Each month we like to feature some of our favorite free resources that are lurking out there just waiting for you to download!

Mentore Software
Every month Mentore Software releases a Free cartographic utility geared towards "Casual Cartographers"! This month is no exception as they have made available an Ellipsoid Radii Calculator.

The calculated radii values have several uses:
Using the appropriate radius value, ellipsoidal calculations can be approximated with the simpler spherical calculations. Very useful when testing or trouble shooting coordinate system definitions and projection code.

Using the appropriate radius to approximate a specific ellipsoid, one can rapidly develop applications which perform useful calculations without having to develop rigorous ellipsoid code.

Being able to quickly obtain radii numbers for different ellipsoids can help in determining the ellipsoid used for a specific set of data coordinates.
You can get the Radii Calulator at http://www.mentorsoftwareinc.com

MrSID Stand Alone Viewer

Now you can download images that have been compressed in Mr. Sid format and view them with your free Mr. Sid viewer. GeoCommunity Software Utilities

I had to mention this resource because we've made so many additions to it recently. We've put together numerous downloads and pointers to free downloads. In our collection you'll find data translators, map viewers, CAD programs, avenue scripts and lots more. If you have a free product or demo available and want it featured in our list please tell us about it! We'll serve it up or link to your web site.
