GIS IN CANADA, EH!
GeoConnections
GeoConnections
Canada's Geographic Information on the Internet http://cgdi.gc.ca/ was recently given a make-over.
Upon your arrival, you'll be greeted with French and English options. The website is very well layed out and pleasing to the eye, with Main content found in the following sections:
What's New - The latest announcements and information regarding conferences and other events.
Archives are available and sorted by month.
New Users - Site overview, tours, and FAQ's are posted in this section.
Projects - the Projects section details some of the projects that contributed to the development of the
Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure project.
Opportunities - Highlights agencies that offer various opportunities for obtaining funding or work.
The objective here is to develop government/private sector partnerships to accelerate development of technologies.
Publications - Studies, reports, conference details, and more are all listed here.
Find Data - Here you can find information on where to look for Spatial Data sets. Numerous links are provided and information
regarding Provincial Geomatics websites are given.
To help you locate addition resources, GeoConnections has provided additional links to the following government web portals:
CEONET http://ceonet.ccrs.nrcan.gc.ca/
GeoGratis http://geogratis.cgdi.gc.ca/
National Atlas of Canada http://atlas.gc.ca/english/home-english.html
Canadian GeoSpatial Warehouse http://ceoware.ccrs.nrcan.gc.ca/cgi-bin/warehouse/wh_start.cgi
Guaranteed, if you're looking for National Level spatial data coverages you'll find them at one of these sites.
Anything more detailed than 1:250,000 scale, however, will likely have to be obtained from a Provincial Government agency.
This is an excellent site providing pointers to Canadian Geomatics Industry resources. Much of the site is still under development, hopefully
it hasn't run out of funding!
