IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number, it is the ISO 13616 international standard for numbering bank accounts. It facilitates the communication and processing of cross-border transactions and it allows exchanging account identification details in a machine-readable form. IBAN format for Kuwait has been registered in the IBAN registry based on Central Bank of Kuwait request and it has been activated starting from the first of January 2011, aiming to promote faster and reliable funds transfers between banks in Kuwait.

الآيبان (IBAN – International Bank Account Number) هو صياغة لرقم الحساب المصرفي حسب النمطية العالمية لترقيم حسابات البنوك، و يندرج تحت المعيار العالمي (ISO 13616 international standard for numbering bank accounts). تم استحداث هذه النمطية لغرض تسهيل الدفعات المالية عالمياً، كما انها تسمح بتبادل تفاصيل الحساب في شكل مقروء آليا. على الصعيد المحلي فقد تم تسجيل هيكلة الآيبان لدولة الكويت في السجل الدولي للآيبان بناءً على طلب بنك الكويت المركزي وذلك للعمل به اعتباراً من الأول من يناير 2011، بهدف تسريع وتسهيل حركة تدفق الحوالات بين البنوك المحلية باستخدام الأنظمة الآلية.
